Maryanne Tucker
Maryanne completed both her Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Psychology and Masters of Education Degree in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has worked in a variety of settings in Newfoundland as a Counsellor, a Child Management Specialist (Developmental and Behavioural Practitioner) and a Psychologist both in the public health care system and within the private system. She has experience in providing individual and group therapy to adults, adolescents and children and also conducting psychological and psycho-educational assessments with both children and adolescents.
Her areas of practice includes anxiety and depression disorders, behavioural issues such as oppositional defiance disorder, emotional regulation issues, anger management, adjustment disorder, relationship challenges, obsessive compulsive disorder, parenting, grief/bereavement, school refusal, ADHD, etc. In addition to this, she has also worked with children and youth who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and has been trained in Applied Behavioural Analysis. Recently, she has developed a group therapy program aimed at assisting parents of children and adolescents with behavioural challenges to deal effectively and efficiently with disruptive behaviour.
Her theoretical orientation is an integration of the Client-Centered approach, Cognitive-Behavioural and Behavioural theories and Emotion-Focused therapy. Her collaborative work with the individual is based on the understanding that people have a natural capacity for growth and change. With this in mind, interventions and techniques used within therapy are based what will benefit the individual or family most in this natural change process.
Maryanne has also offered telepsychology services for individuals who live out of town.
